Living on campus means that every day I encounter someone I know. This translates to having someone to turn to on tough days, to share good news with, or to help when illness strikes. But the support network at HBS is much more than that. It means that when you or your child is struggling, someone is there to offer kind words, a hug, or advice. When you achieve something fantastic, someone is there to cheer you on and celebrate with you. When you or a loved one is sick, someone is there to bring dinner or medication. The way parents support each other in this community is nothing short of amazing. [...]
Today and every day, we celebrate our student parents who balance academic requirements, career pursuits, and family life while at HBS. Our campus is a community, and we strive to create a welcome and inspiring environment not just for our MBA students, but for their partners, children, and families as well. In honor of Father’s Day, we interviewed four HBS fathers – three students and one recent graduate—to learn more about what it is like to be (or become!) a father at HBS. [...]
This Mother’s Day, we celebrated progress and possibility on the HBS campus! HBS first accepted women into the MBA Program in 1963. Fast forward six decades and now classrooms are 44% female and most sections have 1-2 mothers. Across the RC (first-year) and EC (second-year) MBA student body, we have over 20 mothers on campus. I’m so excited to introduce you to some of the incredibly strong, talented, and inspiring MoMBAs (student mothers) of HBS. [...]
This picturesque, family-friendly, safe environment is truly one of a kind and one of great privilege to experience. It has set the highest standards for the type of community and kinds of people I want to continue to raise our family around. I am walking away with invaluable family memories and friendships that are rooted in the deep love of being a mom. [...]
I am often asked the question, “How do you get through business school with a family?” I might give a light-hearted reply, but what I really want to say is, “How do you get through without one?” Here at HBS with me is my incredible wife, Abby, and our two wonderful daughters, Sophie and Margot. Though my classroom room experience may look similar to any other student, it’s in that extracurricular time that the differences come to life. Sure, I don’t attend as many social events as the average student, but it’s not a major loss when I have a small fan club of my own at home. I don’t sleep in on the weekends, but it’s because I’m busy making waffles with my two best little friends. I might be seen jumping off a Zoom meeting in a hurry, but it’s only because some “owies” are only made better by dad. There are compromises, to be sure, but the joy I get from having my kids in my life far outweighs the difficulties. They are a greater source of confidence, reassurance, and purpose than anything I could muster on my own. [...]
