The mission of the Armed Forces Alumni Association (AFAA) is to assist in the professional development and job search process of members; to promote camaraderie among members; and to raise awareness and support for the military among the members of the Harvard Business School (HBS) community. We welcome service members and veterans from all military branches and nations.
While HBS admits outstanding and talented individuals from numerous industries, perhaps no group of students has more experience leading and managing people than AFAA members. We worked under the most strenuous of circumstances to lead diverse groups of young men and women to accomplish arduous tasks all over the world. We also often have demonstrated numerous other skills employers desire, such as project management, strategic planning, and coaching for junior employees.
Every year, AFAA holds events to benefit club members and the HBS community at-large, such as a Veterans Day ceremony and local charity events to support veterans in need. This year, the club was especially honored to be part of the Soldiers Fund Gala, an event which included former Secretary of Defense and retired USMC General James Mattis.
Additionally, the club hosts an annual career fair at which employers can meet AFAA members in a more personal setting to explore internship and full-time career opportunities. Both potential employers and current students have expressed a great deal of satisfaction for the event and 22 employers sponsored the club and its career fair this year.
Included in our mission statement is a desire to partake in the professional development of our members, and additionally we aspire to help you benefit from the unique professional talents our members offer.
