We’ve prioritized building personal, face-to-face relationships with HBS students through on-campus recruitment presentations and interview sessions. We also identify students who may be social impact or education-oriented through student organizations and the HBS resume database, and reach out to them virtually. Given the mission-driven work we do, it’s important to EP that we learn more about each interested student’s passion for transforming education in addition to their resume -- so we create as many individual touchpoints as we can to get to know each individual. We also leverage HBS alumni who are also EP alumni to build these connections. [...]

We found great success in a few ways to share the work of our Foundation with the HBS community. We hosted a Company Presentation on campus and did targeted outreach to students in the Social Enterprise Club to invite them to attend. Then, we offered Company Appointments for groups of students to ask more specific questions about the positions. We heard from many students that these two recruiting tactics were very helpful for them to explore career opportunities with our Foundation. [...]

A lot can be achieved through emails, phone calls, and meetings, but being in the field helps broaden perspectives. The HBS Social Enterprise Initiative (SEI) did just that – when Matt Segneri, Director, and Margot Dushin, Director of Programs, took a field trip to New York City over a couple of days in July, to visit Social Enterprise students and alumni.
