All of our programs grant different levels of degrees or certifications and some, but not all, grant alumni status. We have created this guide for what each program confers and the benefits associated with being a graduate of each.
HBS Online
Grants:

Harvard Business School (HBS) Online offers certificate and credential programs on vital business topics, including negotiation, accounting, finance, and leadership, combining the flexibility of online learning with the rigor and quality of a Harvard Business School education to equip you with new skills. HBS Online offers a unique and highly engaging way to learn, through flexible programs where you complete coursework on your own time while meeting regular deadlines.
Executive Education
Grants: Certificate of Completion for all programs

Whether it’s improving leadership skills, staying abreast of industry innovations, or preparing for a new role, everyone has their own distinct reasons for coming to HBS Executive Education. We offer a range of program offerings: multi-week comprehensive leadership programs; three- to six-day programs dedicated to key business topics like strategy, negotiation, or innovation; multi-week regional programs that deliver a global curriculum through a regional lens; and programs created exclusively for an organization or association. A flexible variety of program formats and locations are available: on campus, modular (with on-campus and online components), select regional locations, or onsite with an organization. Harvard Business School grants alumni status with successful completion of any of the following programs: the Advanced Management Program, General Management Program, Owner/President Management, Program for Leadership Development (which has additional requirements), and three Senior Executive Leadership Programs.
Doctoral Program

Some of the greatest intellectual challenges of our time are emerging from the broad fields of business management. Harvard Business School together with the Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences offers PhD programs that reflect the changing world of business, society, and education. PhD programs are offered in the following areas: Accounting & Management, Business Economics (includes Finance), Health Policy (Management), Management, Marketing, Organizational Behavior, Strategy, and Technology & Operations Management.
Harvard Business Analytics Program
Grants: Certificate of Completion
Alumni Status: No
The Harvard Business Analytics Program is an online certificate program designed for business leaders, including MBA graduates, seeking to modernize their analytics skills. The program is offered as a collaboration between Harvard Business School, The Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. The rigorous curriculum consists of Harvard faculty-designed courses that build technical, analytical, and operational capabilities.
MBA Program
Grants: Master in Business Administration (MBA)
Alumni Status: Yes
The HBS MBA is a two-year general management program. Students spend their first two terms completing the Required Curriculum with a section of 90 students to which they are assigned. Section mates enjoy the intellectual exchange of case method discussion and offer one another support, often forming lifelong friendships. During the second year, students choose up to five courses per semester from a broad list of course offerings to build their Elective Curriculum of choice.
Joint Degrees
In collaboration with Harvard University graduate schools, Harvard Business School (HBS) has created the following joint degree programs designed to prepare individuals for complex leadership challenges that balance expertise with effective management skills.
The MS/MBA Biotechnology: Life Sciences Program
Grants: Master in Business Administration from Harvard Business School (HBS) and Master of Science (MS) from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) through the Harvard Department of Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology
Alumni Status: Yes
The world needs more leaders working at the intersection of science and society, with deep understanding of biotechnology, life sciences, and management. The two-year MS/MBA builds upon students’ existing biotech and life sciences knowledge and equips them with the latest business and scientific insights. This empowers them to grow transformative organizations that will advance new drug discoveries or therapeutics.
The MS/MBA: Engineering Sciences Program
Grants: Master in Business Administration from Harvard Business School (HBS) and Master of Science (MS) from the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering & Applied Sciences (SEAS)
Alumni Status: Yes
The world needs more leaders with deep understanding of technology and management. The two-year MS/MBA builds upon students’ existing technical knowledge and skills and prepares them for leadership roles in technology ventures.
The JD/MBA Program
Grants: Master in Business Administration from Harvard Business School (HBS) and a Juris Doctorate (JD) from Harvard Law School (HLS)
Alumni Status: Yes
Structured to be completed in four years, the joint degree integrates two complementary disciplines that prepare graduates for professional roles requiring leadership, legal expertise, and a general management perspective in private enterprise, government, and the nonprofit sector.
The MD/MBA Program
Grants: Master in Business Administration from Harvard Business School (HBS) and Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from Harvard Medical School (HMS)
Alumni Status: Yes
Structured to be completed in five years, the program’s mission is to develop outstanding physician leaders, skilled in both medicine and management, to take positions of influence through which they will contribute substantially to the health and well-being of individuals and society.
The MBA/MPP & MBA/MPA-ID Programs
Grants:
MBA/MPP: A Master in Business Administration from Harvard Business School (HBS) and Master in Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School (HKS)
MBA/MPA-IP: A Master in Business Administration from Harvard Business School (HBS) and a Master in Public Administration-International Development from HKS

The mission of the three-year HBS/HKS joint degree programs is to develop leaders, skilled in management and the shaping of innovative public policy, who will assume positions of influence spanning business, government, and nonprofit organizations, through which they will contribute significantly to the well-being of society.
