- Do you offer services for students as well as faculty?
- The Christensen Center is primarily for faculty teaching development. However, we understand the critical role played by students in the case method. We take part in the training of student educational representatives and maintain connections with student leaders throughout the term. In addition we conduct interviews with student groups for use in our research and programs with faculty.
- Does the Christensen Center offer training in case method teaching to non-HBS faculty?
- While the center does not offer training in case method teaching to outside participants, our website section, 'Case Method in Practice,' contains topic overviews, tip sheets, video excerpts and references on case method teaching.
- Does the Christensen Center support teaching pedagogies other than the Case Method?
- The Christensen Center encourages and supports innovation within the participant-centered learning model. We believe that while our resources are developed with case method instructors in mind, skills that promote effective and rich classroom discussions can be valuable to any instructor.
- Is there a fee for services?
- There are no fees for HBS faculty for any of our services. The Christensen Center is part of the Division of Research and Development (DRFD), whose mission is to provide unparalleled faculty support. The DRFD helps to build and develop the faculty, and facilitates the creation of enduring knowledge that shapes both business scholarship and the practice of business.
- What happens to the recording of my class?
- The Christensen Center takes the confidentiality of video recording classes seriously. After a class has been recorded we will give you access to a digital viewing copy and we will keep the master file in our archive. The Center retains recordings for reference during our long-term relationship with clients. They are helpful in multi-year comparisons, but most importantly, they are incredibly helpful for our work with new faculty. Periodically we review the collection to see if there are classes that will be good additions to our coaching collections or for use as examples in our workshops and client consultations. Before using any class recording, the Christensen Center will request written permission from the faculty member.
- What is the Center's confidentiality policy?
- All client interactions and information are held in strict confidentiality.
- What resources does the Christensen Center have to support case writing?
- The Christensen Center does not directly work with faculty on case development. Cases are often included for promotional consideration and the center's developmental mission removes itself from the promotion process. We do provide links to published articles available for faculty looking for support in case writing.
- What role does the Christensen Center play in the promotions process at HBS?
- The Christensen Center has no involvement in the promotions process at HBS. All services to clients are offered on a voluntary basis for developmental purposes, and interactions between individual faculty members and staff of the Christensen Center are held in strict confidence.
- What seminars and programs are available at the Harvard Business School for training in case method teaching?

- How is the coaching video library curated?
- Each semester we solicit permission to record experienced faculty, particularly in the teaching of classic cases that are used each year and in the teaching of new cases with untested teaching plans. We regularly review the collection to see if there are classes that will be good additions to our coaching collections or for use as examples in our workshops and client consultations; coaching videos are especially valuable for new faculty.
