    HBS New Venture Competition Finale Takes Place Today

    Harvard Business School will hold its New Venture Competition Finale this afternoon in Burden Hall on the School’s campus in Boston. This marks the seventeenth year of the event (formerly the HBS Business Plan Contest), which has been renamed to reflect the fact that this long-term educational process has become more focused on the active journey of building new ventures rather than simply presenting a business plan.       Professor Emeritus William J. Poorvu Elected Member of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences

      BOSTON—William J. Poorvu, the MBA Class of 1961 Adjunct Professor in Entrepreneurship Emeritus at Harvard Business School (HBS), has been elected a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, one of the nation’s most prestigious honorary societies and a leading center for independent policy research. Poorvu joins 63 other new members chosen from academia, business, public affairs, the humanities, and the arts. Read more.

      Gift to Harvard Business School Funds New Professorship on Gender, Work, Career, and Family

      BOSTON—As part of a two-day summit (April 4 and 5) celebrating the 50th anniversary of the admission of women to Harvard Business School’s two-year MBA program, Dean Nitin Nohria announced this morning that Alvin J. Silk, the School’s Lincoln Filene Professor of Business Administration Emeritus, has established an endowed chair named in honor of his late wife, Diane Doerge Wilson, an organizational sociologist and longtime researcher, author, and consultant on the impact of information technology on companies around the globe. Most recently, she was a senior partner at Accenture from 1995 until her death in 2003 at the age of 55 after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. The new chair will support an HBS faculty member whose interests include the intersection of gender with work, career, and family issues, a passion of Dr. Wilson’s throughout her academic and professional career.       HBS Women's Student Association Endows Fellowship for Future Women Leaders

      BOSTON—During a two-day celebration of the 50th anniversary of women being admitted to Harvard Business School’s (HBS) MBA program, Dean Nitin Nohria announced the endowment of the Women’s Student Association Fellowship by the HBS Women’s Student Association (WSA).
