HBS Women's Student Association Endows Fellowship for Future Women Leaders

First HBS Student Organization to Endow a Fellowship

BOSTON—During a two-day celebration of the 50th anniversary of women being admitted to Harvard Business School’s (HBS) MBA program, Dean Nitin Nohria announced the endowment of the Women’s Student Association Fellowship by the HBS Women’s Student Association (WSA). The WSA is the first student organization at HBS to endow a fellowship.

The HBS Women’s Student Association Fellowship, which was established in 2008 through the individual donations of graduates and friends of Harvard Business School, will be awarded to a second-year student who embodies the characteristics of integrity, leadership, and excellence and has contributed to the development of the women’s community within HBS. This might include promoting the School to prospective female students, creating forums for women to be recognized as leaders in business and academia, or developing mentoring programs that connect students with alumnae and faculty. The annual award of up to $20,000 will be determined by the recipient’s financial need.

“This gift is made possible by more than a decade of sound financial management on the part of the WSA’s student leadership,” said WSA co-president Deborah Singer (MBA 2013). “We are thrilled that the WSA’s gift will ensure the longevity of the fellowship for many years to come.”

The WSA was created to help develop outstanding women business leaders who will impact their communities with passion and integrity. The club, open to all HBS students, executes its mission by connecting and supporting students through mentoring programs, networking events, speaker series, an annual conference, and social and community activities across sections and with other schools and organizations.

“Endowing this fellowship is the capstone to the WSA’s observance of the 50th anniversary celebration of women in the full-time MBA program. It represents the club’s commitment to supporting and empowering female students at Harvard Business School on a sustained basis,” WSA co-president Parker Woltz (MBA 2013) said.
