Students are expected to review the Harvard University Graduate & Professional Student International Travel Policy for information on the Harvard-wide policy on student travel. The Harvard Global Support Services Office is a helpful resource for students planning Harvard-related travel.

Students should refer to the Global Experience Office policies for FIELD Global Capstone and IFC travel. For more information, contact the Global Experience Office, (617) 279-2442, geo@hbs.edu.

If students are planning to travel or organizing travel for other HBS students, they should consult the “Student Travel” resources provided by MBA Student & Academic Services, (617) 495-6087, sas@hbs.edu.

Travel-Related Attendance Policies

  • It is the responsibility of any student planning, organizing, or attending a trip to comply with the Attendance Policy. This includes club, section, small group, and individual travel. Student-organized trips, including club sponsored travel, do not count as an excused absence.
  • Absences occurring from travel disruption due to cancelled flights, inclement weather, or other circumstances are unexcused absences.
  • No group flights or departures of any type may be scheduled before the last class of the day ends. Departures should be scheduled at least three hours after the last class of the day.
  • No scheduled events/activities on a trip may be organized on class days. Please note: ECs and RCs do not have the same open days.
  • Check the Outlook Planning Calendar (login required) for restrictions, considerations, and compliant travel dates when planning travel.
  • Any student(s) organizing or planning a group trip (including club leaders) are responsible for communicating to participants the importance of attendance policy compliance.
  • If unexcused class absences occur as a result of student travel, trip organizers and/or club leaders will be contacted by the MBA Program and subject to potential disciplinary sanction. The nature of any potential sanction will be impacted by the due diligence invested by the trip leaders before and during the trip regarding adherence to the Attendance Policy.
