100 Years of the Case Method
Our MBA program features many different ways of learning—from small group discussions, simulations, project-based work, and hands-on experiences—but HBS is famous for pioneering the case method. This year marks 100 years since the first Harvard Business School case was published in 1921—check out this timeline.
When I was in your shoes, the case method is something that made me excited about applying to HBS. As a student, I found the case method the ideal way to learn about leadership, business, and general management. In addition to being incredibly engaging, the case method centers the diverse experiences of every student in the class allowing you to learn deeply not just from faculty, but also from your classmates. I also loved when leaders of the companies we discussed in the cases joined our class to share their insights.
Just before the pandemic hit, we filmed a case discussion with Professor Tsedal Neeley and a section of HBS students. Check it out here. If you find yourself excited about this way to learn after this ten minute video, I hope you’ll apply to HBS!
