BOSTON—MBA students at Harvard Business School (HBS) who are interested in entrepreneurship and looking to start new ventures are able to seek guidance and access expertise from various resources on the HBS campus, including more than 30 faculty experts in the field, 21 Entrepreneurs-in-Residence, and this year’s Venture Capital Partners, all based at the School’s Arthur Rock Center for Entrepreneurship.

Venture Capital Partners are managing and general partners from some of the most successful VC firms in the United States. They come to campus a few times a year to meet with students; provide fundraising information as well as feedback on their ideas, business models, and other aspects of their new ventures; and judge the New Venture Competition Finale in the spring.

“We truly appreciate the time and effort these outstanding venture capitalists have committed to the Rock Center and the entire HBS community,” said Jodi Gernon (MBA 1991), the Center’s Director. “They bring an amazing array of industry experience, knowledge, and accomplishments to the School’s thriving entrepreneurial environment.”

Since 1947, the study of entrepreneurship has been a vital part of the Harvard Business School MBA Program, which includes a semester-long course in the first-year Required Curriculum and numerous offerings in the second-year Elective Curriculum.

Harvard Business School’s Rock Center for Entrepreneurship, whose wide array of programs and resources has won praise as tops in the nation for entrepreneurial studies,, supports faculty and their research and teaching in the field of entrepreneurial management, while infusing the HBS community with the energy and spirit needed for new ideas and innovations to thrive and grow.

Through a community that provides support, access to content, and a gateway to entrepreneurial ecosystems at Harvard Business School and beyond, the Rock Center helps HBS students and alumni create revolutionary and disruptive ventures in both the for-profit and social enterprise sectors.

ABOUT ROCK CENTER FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The Rock Center for Entrepreneurship was made possible by the generosity and vision of pioneering venture capitalist Arthur Rock (MBA 1951), who helped launch, among many other enterprises, Apple and Intel Corporation. The Rock Center offers a broad array of programs to encourage and support the pursuit of entrepreneurship by Harvard Business School students and alumni, including an annual New Venture Competition, the Rock Accelerator program to facilitate and financially support the execution of new ideas, The Rock Summer Fellowship program to support founders pursuing business ideas and internships with new ventures, a loan reduction program to help ease the burden of recent graduates starting their own enterprises, and access to an array of Entrepreneurs-in-Residence who offer advice and counsel throughout the school year.

The Rock Center is closely affiliated with the School’s Entrepreneurial Management Unit, which includes some 33 HBS faculty members dedicated to research, teaching, and course development in the field of entrepreneurial management. Harvard Business School’s first-year curriculum requires a full-semester course in Entrepreneurial Management. The second-year curriculum provides students with a wide selection of electives. The lessons learned serve students well after they have earned their degrees. Ten to fifteen years after graduation, fifty percent of Harvard Business School alumni describe themselves as entrepreneurs. For more information, visit hbs.edu/entrepreneurship or @HBSROCK.
