BOSTON—Harvard Business School has named Patrick Mullane (MBA 1999) the new Executive Director of HBX, Harvard Business School’s digital learning initiative. Mullane brings a career-long talent of building and shaping businesses to the work underway at HBX. He will officially assume his duties in early November.

Mullane will serve as the operational leader for HBX, managing its growth, expansion in global markets, and long-term success. He will work closely with HBX faculty chair Professor Bharat Anand and other faculty leaders in developing and implementing a strategy to ensure that HBX offerings continue to create value for learners—whether individuals (including the School's alumni) or client organizations.

Mullane succeeds Jana Kierstead, who has served as Executive Director of HBX since its inception in 2013. Kierstead is returning full-time to her role as Executive Director of the School’s MBA program.

"I am thrilled to join the HBX team at Harvard Business School and excited by the opportunity to join the efforts already underway at HBX to reimagine business education in a technology-driven world," said Mullane. Nitin Nohria, Dean of Harvard Business School, added, "HBX has proved itself a powerful complement to the School’s case method and field method pedagogies. We are delighted to have Patrick join us at a pivotal moment in HBX's evolution as we explore a wider range of applications for this unique online platform."

Mullane brings deep leadership experience to HBX. He has served as president and CEO of Fabrico, Inc., a manufacturer of combustion and sealing components for the industrial turbine market, as well as vice president and general manager for Technetics Group, a division of EnPro Industries. He has a long-standing interest in education and has worked in for-profit education at Kaplan Test Prep, where he managed the Washington, DC market.

Before earning his MBA, Mullane served as a captain in a U.S. Air Force intelligence organization.
