Boston – Harvard Business School (HBS) announced today that Kenneth J. Peterson has been named executive director for Knowledge and Library Services (KLS), effective October 4, 2021. Peterson will be responsible for acquiring, creating, managing, preserving, and disseminating information—through research and course support, information and data management services, information products, contemporary and historical collections, the HBS art collection, and a content management system and discovery platform.

“Baker Library is a pre-eminent academic business research library and we are excited, after a national search, to have someone with Ken's expertise heading up the outstanding KLS team” said Executive Dean for Administration Angela Crispi. “Ken’s deep experience with the changing and dynamic nature of information management and digital collections and his strong commitment to working with faculty and students, make him an ideal person to build on Baker Library’s tradition of excellence.”

Throughout his career, Peterson has held strategic leadership roles in academic, research, and public library systems. Peterson began his career in reference at the Boston Public Library. Following a move to the Boston Regional Library System/Metro-Boston Library Network, he was responsible for designing innovative collaborations across the city libraries. He then joined the Harvard Libraries as the director of access services, leading a team of over 110 in circulation, collection management, resource sharing, and the depository, as well as access services (including research services). Most recently, as the associate librarian for access & collections strategy at Dartmouth, Peterson led strategic planning and collections development, including devising programs to manage digitized and born-digital materials, and creating an evaluation strategy to ensure the Library’s activities aligned with the faculty's and College's priorities.

Peterson holds a Master of Science in Library and Information Science (MLS) from Simmons College and is an active member of the Ivy Plus Libraries Confederation as well as the Association of College and Research Libraries.
