    Two Future Harvard Business School Students Receive Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans

    BOSTON—The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans, a graduate school program for immigrants and children of immigrants, has recently announced that Seul (Kathy) Ku, who will be an MBA student at Harvard Business School after furthering her studies for an MD degree at the Stanford University School of Medicine, and Angela Tian Ma, who has been admitted to Harvard’s PhD program in business economics, are recipients of Soros Fellowships to their graduate studies. They are among the 30 Fellows selected this year from a pool of 1,766 applicants for their potential to make significant contributions to US society, culture, or their academic fields. The 2018 Fellows are all the children of immigrants, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) recipients, green card holders, or naturalized citizens. Read more.

      Professor Rebecca Henderson Elected to American Academy of Arts & Sciences

      BOSTON—Rebecca M. Henderson, Harvard’s John and Natty McArthur University Professor, based at Harvard Business School, has been elected to membership in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Founded in 1780 by John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington, among other notables, the Academy has long been one of the most prestigious honorary societies in the United States, celebrating exceptional scholars, leaders, artists, and innovators in this country and abroad and engaging them in sharing knowledge and addressing the many challenges facing the world.       Harvard Business School Names Winners of 21st New Venture Competition at Finale

      BOSTON—Yesterday evening in Harvard Business School’s Shad Hall, 12 student and alumni finalist teams made their pitches for $315,000 in cash prizes, plus in-kind prizes, at the Finale of the 21st annual HBS New Venture Competition (NVC). The top prize in the student business, student social enterprise, and alumni tracks was $75,000 each. The finalists advanced through several rounds of judging. More than 300 judges, many of them HBS graduates, from such fields as venture capital, private equity, law, accounting, philanthropy, impact investing, and social entrepreneurship vigorously reviewed the new ventures.       Carla Harris, Vice Chairman of Morgan Stanley, to be Harvard Business School’s Class Day Keynote Speaker

      BOSTON—Carla Harris (MBA 1987), vice chairman, managing director, and senior client advisor at Morgan Stanley and member of the Harvard University Board of Overseers, will be the Harvard Business School Class Day keynote speaker on Wednesday, May 23, 2018. The ceremony, which will take place on the Baker Lawn on the School’s campus in Boston, will also include a welcome from the co-presidents of the MBA Class of 2018, presentations of the Alumni Achievement Awards and Faculty Teaching Awards, and a student address.       New Baker Library Exhibit at Harvard Business School Celebrates 50th Anniversary of African-American Student Union

      BOSTON—Established in the spring of 1968, the African-American Student Union (AASU), a student club at Harvard Business School (HBS), is marking its 50th anniversary. As part of a year-long celebration, with the help of Senior Lecturer Tony Mayo and his colleagues in the Leadership Initiative, the School’s Baker Library Special Collections has mounted an extensive exhibit in the Library’s north foyer documenting the founding and growth of AASU over two decades, from the troubled times of the late 1960s--in the midst of the civil rights movement, protests against the Vietnam War, urban unrest, and the assassinations of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Senator Robert F. Kennedy--until 1990. Read more.
