Harvard Business School Celebrates 108th Commencement
BOSTON—Harvard Business School (HBS) held its 108th Commencement exercises this afternoon with a diploma ceremony on its campus in Boston. After an all-University celebration in Harvard’s Tercentenary Theatre this morning, 915 students received their MBA degrees in front of the School’s Baker Library | Bloomberg Center. The top five percent of the MBA Class of 2018 (47 students) graduated with high distinction as Baker Scholars (named after the School's initial benefactor, George Fisher Baker). 81 earned their diplomas with distinction. 179 earned second-year honors. 11 MBA degrees were awarded last March. In addition, 11 students in the Doctoral Programs were awarded doctorates in business administration (DBA), and 10 earned PhD degrees offered jointly with the Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences in the fields of business economics, health policy, and organizational behavior. One student was awarded a master’s in business economics from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. In March, one student received a DBA, another received a master’s in management research, and three received their PhD. Last November, two students earned a PhD, one in business economics and the other in health policy. One student also earned a PhD in business economics in March. In his Commencement remarks today, HBS Dean Nitin Nohria spoke about the role of enterprise, energy, and empathy. “Everyone at HBS joins your families in congratulating you on all you have accomplished during your time with us,” he said. “We celebrate you, and we wish you good fortune as you begin your next adventures. We encourage you to always consider the mission of Harvard Business School and to go forth and make a difference in the world.” |
