“As we shared our hopes, our dreams, and our fears for our future selves, it was amazing to see our section mates be so vulnerable with people who were otherwise strangers just two months before.”

Coming to HBS is like...

Living the dream! Honestly, it was something I never really allowed myself to hope for. Even during the admissions cycle, I would never dare to admit my first choice was Harvard for fear of jinxing any chances I might have. I received my admissions result at work, and I hid away in a conference room prepared to have my reality checked. When I saw “The Answer is Yes!” as soon as I opened the letter, I stood there in shock, mouth agape. The only logical next step was to call my parents. The excitement and joy we shared in that moment is something I will cherish forever.

What is your most memorable classroom moment?

In one of our final Leadership and Organizational Behavior (LEAD) classes, our assignment was to imagine ourselves preparing for our ten-year reunion. As is tradition, we wrote a short memo to keep our class and section mates updated on our lives. As we shared our hopes, our dreams, and our fears for our future selves, it was amazing to see our section mates be so vulnerable with people who were otherwise strangers just two months before. I couldn't help but be impressed by the ambitions and goals of my classmates. More importantly, it epitomized the power of the section experience.

What is one thing you brought with you to campus, and one thing you'll be leaving with?

My stand mixer! I absolutely love to bake. It's a way for me to manage stress, introduce myself to people, and connect with family and friends. I figured it was certainly going to come in handy as I embarked on this crazy adventure, and my section mates seem to like the Monday morning banana bread and the occasional chocolate chip cookies. I am going to be leaving with a very full passport! The travel has been one of the most exciting parts of the experience. I had the chance to go to the Galapagos for spring break, and I am heading to Ho Chi Minh City for FIELD. After FIELD, I expect to visit friends in Hong Kong and Singapore. With so many new friends across the globe, I can't wait to see what destinations next year brings.

How have diverse perspectives in your section contributed to your understanding of business concepts, leadership, and/or problem solving?

It's like flexing an entirely different muscle. People come from such different experiences personally, professionally, and globally. No two stories are the same, and no two ways of thinking follow the same path. While we may disagree, there exists this incredible curiosity to unpack our differences and challenge our own perspectives. I've learned to find my own voice in the case method, and what it means to truly listen.

If you could give one piece of advice to prospective students, what would it be?

Choose three goals for your two years and have those goals guide your every decision! They need to be firm and non-negotiable. There are only so many hours in a day, and only two years of business school, and you are going to need to accept you cannot do everything. With those three goals, you can have a very easy, very objective way of deciding what really matters.
